Making: The boyfriend’s Birthday Cake

My boyfriend loves a good chocolate dessert and for his birthday, I decided to make him this decadent hazelnut chocolate entremet which I call, Hazelnut Lover. It has layers of chocolate flourless sponge, crispy wafers, hazelnut creamy, creme brulee and a 70% chocolate mousse.

Life 101: Exploring the beautiful JiuZhaiGou (九寨沟)

JiuZhaiGou (九寨沟) Valley National Park is situated in the Sichuan province of China. It is about 3000-4000m above sea levels. It is a beautifully preserved national park with a lot of breathtaking sceneries. I was there in June 2014 and I fell in love with the place. If there was a tourist attraction that I would recommend (having explored quite a few last year), it would be JiuZhaiGou, hands down.

The tranquility offered by JiuZhaiGou is the main selling point of this national park. The tourists were surprisingly all well behaved and didn’t ruin the serenity of the place. The whole park was generally well kept, rubbish were thrown in where they were supposed to, waters were clear and people walked where they were supposed to and it was generally clean.

I didn’t have a good camera on me so my pictures don’t do the place justice but I hope it gives you an idea of how beautiful the place is, and tempt you to visit JiuZhaiGou because it’s truly worth the journey 🙂

Making: Dessert Table

I moved into a new place late last year and to celebrate, I had a house warming party and invited some friends and family over for a gathering. My mum was in charge of the savoury dishes and I took over the desserts station. I have never done a dessert table before so I stuck to what I could easily do so that I don’t stress out too much (because moving is already stressful as it is).



The final dessert table featuring some savoury macarons, a colourful macaron tower, 3 tiers of strawberry tarts, a cheese platter, some fruits and some earl grey praline.

Making: Vanilla Passion Entremet

Last year, I made a few of this “Vanilla Passion” entremet for friends and family on different occasions. This is a cake consisting of vanilla mousse, creme brulee insert and a passionfruit cream insert on top of a coconut cake. I really like the aesthetics of the end product and thought I would share it with you here 🙂
